PRIVACY & DATA

Know what gets saved.

This notice describes the data features currently available in CodeTrail by SWOT & Study. Last updated: October 2, 2026.

Account access and saved learning

CodeTrail uses Sign in with ChatGPT. OpenAI handles authentication, and CodeTrail associates saved records with your authenticated account identifier. Review the identity information shown during sign-in: OpenAI may also make your name, email address and profile picture available. Signing in does not import your ChatGPT conversations or memory.

Saved learning records include lesson position, language, studied lessons, quiz results, solved exercises, code drafts and recovered draft versions. They can also include the name, learning goal and daily practice intention you enter, plus academy submissions, ratings and progress. These records support your learning space and are not automatically shared with other learners. Practice timers are not saved.

How Sign in with ChatGPT works ↗

OpenAI privacy policy ↗

Optional chat memory

Account memory is off by default. When enabled, it saves up to the latest 20 tutor and homepage-guide exchanges to your account, including any code in those exchanges. You can also save learning preferences for the tutor. Older exchanges roll off as new ones are saved.

Use Memory to turn future saving and reuse on or off, edit the learning preferences, or clear saved chat history. Turning memory off keeps existing history. Clearing history removes saved exchanges; it does not clear text already visible in an open tab, tutor preferences, profile information, course progress or code drafts. You can erase tutor preferences separately by saving an empty preferences field.

Profile, discovery and recommendations

Directory discovery, city or region sharing, photo sharing and personalized recommendations are off by default. On Profile, you choose a separate learner name and whether signed-in learners can find it. City or region is optional and entered by you; CodeTrail does not request GPS location. Your email is not listed in the learner directory.

A selected profile photo is cropped and resized on your device. Only the processed thumbnail is uploaded when you choose Save photo. It is shown to other signed-in learners only when both directory discovery and photo visibility are enabled. You can replace it or remove it from your profile.

When personalization is enabled, recommendations can use saved learning activity and up to 30 recent course searches and views. Learner-directory searches are not added to that recommendation history. You can clear the history. Turning personalization off also clears it; saved course progress remains.

Community sharing

Joining a course community saves a community display name and enrollment. Discovery in each course is controlled separately from the main learner directory. Course comments and your community name are visible to enrolled members. Room comments and shared code are available to the room owner and invited members according to their access.

New personal room editors are private until shared. The room owner's original editor is shared with invitees. Editor owners control additional editing permissions. Connections, room membership, sharing choices, blocks and reports are also stored so these features work.

Removing your comment hides it from other learners but keeps a recoverable copy. Leaving a community closes rooms you own and removes your invited-room access there; previous comments remain unless you remove them. Closing a room does not erase its saved code or comments. Reporting records your reason and hides the comment for you; it does not guarantee immediate human review.

Your device and service providers

Python execution and AI generation run on your device. Saving code drafts or enabling account memory still sends the relevant content to CodeTrail's hosted storage. Do not include passwords, API keys or other secrets in code, chats, profiles or submissions.

CodeTrail runs on OpenAI's Sites hosting service. Fonts, runtime libraries, optional photo-conversion software and AI model files load from external providers, including Google Fonts and public CDNs. Those requests disclose connection information to the providers. On-device generation does not mean every part of the website works offline.

The current app can read a previous browser-saved progress copy and offer to import it. Browser caches may also retain downloaded libraries or model files. Hosting and sign-in services may use their own session, security and logging systems; their policies govern that processing.

Retention, copies and deletion

Outside the 20-exchange chat-memory limit and 30-event recommendation-history limit, the app does not currently apply a general automatic expiry period to saved learning, profile or community records.

There is no self-service full account-data export or full account-data deletion control. Copy and code-download controls are available where shown, but they are not a complete account export. Removing a photo removes its profile link and requests deletion of the stored thumbnail; this is not a promise of immediate removal from every service-provider backup.
